Description
1. Introduction
The collaborative research centres "Textile Reinforced Concrete" in Aachen and Dresden,
funded by the German Research Foundation, have to organize a final international
conference, which would be the 2nd RILEM Conference on this topic. The first one in
September 2006 was very successful and therefore a connection to the annual meeting
makes really sense. However, the institute of building materials research of RWTH Aachen
University (ibac) is one of the most important research institutes in Germany concerning
masonry. This will be the second line for the conference, leading to more participants
attending the conference. At least we are worldwide well known in connection with
durability and mechanical behaviour of the different types of concrete (HPC, SCC) and
influences of industrial by-products (fly-ash, silica fume and blast furnace slag) on the
properties of concrete. This third line will be more general and open to different people in
research.
2. Annual week
The annual week will be held from September, 06-10, 2010. It will be organized as
recommended in the previous years. Aachen University offers to organize the annual week
and the conference in one building, so the participants can directly change to the
conference without loosing time.
3. Conference
Three parallel sessions for three days will be organized. Content and scientific committees
as a proposal are given below. The conference will start on Sunday, September 05, 2010,
with a welcome reception and officially on Monday, September 06, 2010 and ends on
Wednesday, September 08, 2010.
SESSION 1: Textile Reinforced Concrete
SESSION 2: Material Properties and Design of Masonry
SESSION 3: Fly ash, Silica Fume and Blast Furnace Slag Improving Mechanical Properties and Durability of Concrete
Social events during the conference will be organized on Tuesday evening (dinner at the
ballroom of the old cure house (Ballsaal altes Kurhaus) and on Wednesday (or Thursday)
organ-recital in the cathedral of Aachen. All events can be reached by feet, which is one of
the advantages of Aachen city.
4. Technical day
On Thursday, September 09, 2010, the technical day will be organized in that way that the
topics will not cover the items of the conference. We will ask TC´s (about 6) to present
their content and results.
