ir CARLO DE PAUW

Carlo DE PAUW is a civil engineer in construction and is currently Director General of the Belgian Building Research Institute in Brussels, Belgium.
He has earned his B.Sc and M.Sc degree in civil engineering in construction at the State University of Ghent (Belgium) in 1969. For two years he carried out research at the State Institute for Soil Mechanics in Ghent.
From 1971 to 1973, he acted as Regional Director of the National Laboratory of Public Works and Building in Oran, Algeria, on request of the Algerian Government.
Carlo De Pauw then returned to Belgium, where he held several positions in research at the Belgian Building Research Institute, published many studies and articles in scientific publications and chaired many workshops and conferences in Belgium and worldwide. He was promoted to General Director of the BBRI in 1986.
Throughout his career, ir De Pauw was active in multiple fields and acted as president, executive director or board member of various regional, federal, european and overseas international profit and non-profit companies and organisations.
Beside his position as Director General of the BBRI, ir De Pauw is co-founder of the UCRC (Belgian Union of Collective Research Centres), where he filled several mandates of president. He is presently secretary general of ECCREDI (European Council for Construction Research, Development & Innovation), executive secretary and co-founder of ENBRI (European Network of Building Research Institutes), president of BCDI (Belgian Centre for Domotics and Immotics), managing director of BCQS (Belgian Construction Quality Society), manager of BCCA (Belgian Construction Certification Association), initiator and leader of the Belgian National Platform for Innovation in Construction, member of the Belgian Supreme Council for Standardization, co-founder and board member of CeDuBo (Belgian Centre for Sustainable Construction), and member of In-HAM (Innovation Centre for Adapted Housing for the disabled and the elderly).
For his merits in Belgian business in general and in the promotion and development of the construction sector in particular, Carlo De Pauw has earned the title of Knight of the Royal Crown of Belgium.
