Masonry strengthening with composite materials is a relatively new topic, in comparison with researches on the applications of innovative solutions on other common construction materials (namely r.c. or steel). Beside the most employed FRP – Fiber Reinforced Polymer, nowadays many modern materials are encompassed into the composite sphere, like SRG/P – Steel Reinforced Grouts/Polymer, as well as new products for mortars to use as matrix. Experimental researches are often based on non-standardized procedures and mechanical performance and durability are still under study. Therefore, applications on historical constructions must be cautious and their reliability carefully validated on research basis.
The 223-MSC Rilem Technical Committee started its work on 2007, aimed firstly at sharing and systematizing the current knowledge on the structural behaviour of masonry structures and components strengthened with composite materials, in order to highlight needs and lacks in the field, to direct further research developments.
As first result of this phase, a data-warehouse (DWH) has been recently produced. It is able to store data related to single structural components (walls/panels, arches/vaults/domes, columns/pillars) or whole constructions, as well as to focus on specific problems, as bond, durability and NDT applications, or to include the main description of interventions on cases study. Experimental works are mainly considered, but sections concerning analytical or numerical evaluations are also provided. Data on materials, researches and results are easily exportable in common formats (Excel, Acrobat) and processed for direct comparisons, by means of charts and diagrams, in order to permit a quick evaluation of the current state of knowledge, and to evidence possible topics to integrate with researches in the field.
This tool has been tested by TC members (now about 40 people) and it is now open freely to contribution from experts through the web site

All experts involved in the field (from companies, research bodies and universities) are invited to log in (some qualifying curriculum data are required) and to check the high potential of the tool. A simple tutorial including audio-guides is provided, to get familiar with the first steps of understanding on how the tool works, and a section of definitions and discussion is permanently open for input and updating. Only data already published are visible to members and contributors. For the same reason, members and contributors are allowed to upload data and results related to their own research works and applications.
