Proceedings pro001: Durability of High Performance Concrete

Key topics in the durability of high performance concrete were discussed by 25 of the leading experts in this field.

Perhaps the principal message from this excellent workshop was that to improve the service life of structures there is the need for the structural designers to work with the materials engineers and scientists, so that the best materials characteristics are exploited to the full and that unnecessary service or environmental loads are not imposed. The structural engineeer or architect should not expect that improved concretes remove the necessity for them to design sensitively.
