Protection, repair, coating and strengthening of concrete structures have become in the last two decades a wide and important field of use and application of polymers in building and civil engineering. Polymers are now replacing the conventional cementitious and mineral based materials that have been used for these purposes until not long ago.

These applications include industrial flooring, repair of damaged or corroded concrete structures, protection of concrete substrates against chemical and environmental attacks and many more.

The introduction of the polymer-based materials has been and still is an important contribution to the concrete construction industry and adds much to the quality and durability of the concrete structure in harsh environments. Yet, it raised new problems and questions which have to be studied and understood in order to make the best and most efficient use of the newmaterials and systems. The most important feature which might affect the combined concrete/polymer system is, no doubt, the adhesion between the concrete substrate and the polymer coating.

The aim of ISAP '99 is, hence, to bring together again all those interested in the field, and to exchange information and

knowledge on scientific, engineering and technical levels. The symposium deals with a variety of related subjects:

* Scientific and engineering aspects of adhesion

* Materials and adhesion: properties of bonding materials

* Practical bonding aspects

* Repair methods of concrete substrates

* Durability and aging factors

* Testing procedures and methods
