PhD Summer Courses

In order to develop the participation of young PhD students in RILEM activities, an agreement was signed in 2004 between RILEM and The Department of Civil Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU).

RILEM and DTU entered a cooperation regarding the continuation of the doctoral courses in cement based materials given at the Department of Civil Engineering with the intention that they form a doctoral curriculum in this field.
The title of the doctoral curriculum is “DTU-RILEM Doctoral Course” with the subtitle “Advances in Cement Based Materials”.
The courses are given at the Department of Civil Engineering and are an integrated part of the International Research School for Civil Engineering at the Department of Civil Engineering.

The core of the doctoral curriculum consists of courses in the following areas:
1. Hydration and Micro-structural Development
2. Rheology of Fresh Cement Based Materials
3. Mechanics of Fiber Reinforced Cementitious Materials.
4. Properties of Early Age Concrete
5. Microstructure and Durability

RILEM acts as a patron for the doctoral curriculum.
RILEM secretariat advertises the doctoral courses in due time though Materials & Structures and the RILEM web.
RILEM TAC acts as an advisory board for the doctoral curriculum to suggest topics, teachers, and other matters.
RILEM offers a free 365-day membership of RILEM to all doctoral students in the doctoral courses.

More recently (2006), RILEM created a new Educational Activity Committee, chaired by Prof. Ole Mejlhede JENSEN, who is in charge of the corresponding issues. Specific information on approved courses and seminars is also available in the ‘Conference’ main menu of www.rilem.net.
