Fiber reinforced concrete design aspects specifications, Bento Gonçalves, Brazil

The PhD course is open to international students.
The course is based on, but not limited to, the design recommendations of the fib Model Code 2010 (MC 2010). It is divided in eight sessions, as follows:

1. General introduction to FRC:
Brief history of FRC evolution; Fibers role; Examples of applications; Advantages of fiber incorporation; New materials: HPFRC and UHPFRC

2. Material properties:
Types of fibers; Fibers alignment and distribution; Casting procedures; Material response.

3. Mechannical properties:
Standards for test methods; Compressive, tensile and shear properties; Classification and constitutive modeling.

4. Design aspects of FRC:
Durability; FRC modeling approaches; Fracture and damage parameters; Cyclic (fatigue) and static loading; Tension stiffening; Closed form moment-curvature expressions

5. Shear and flexural design:
FRC behavior in bending and shear; Flexural and shear design aspects of plain and reinforced concrete with fibers.

6. Time dependent effects:
FRC creep behavior in tension and compression; Shrinkage.

7. FRC under fire:
Material properties evolution during fire; Creep effects during a fire scenario; Numerical modeling; Empirical formulations for the prediction of concrete deformations during heating.

8. Examples:
Classification and characterization of FRC materials with different fiber amounts; Blind tests on RC beams with steel fibers.

The official language is English with simultaneously translation to Portuguese.
