Abstract: This section reviews the literature on FRC durability concentrating where possible on the last 10 years. The general themes concerning durability are introduced including time-dependent behaviour and the micro-structural changes associated therewith, accelerated ageing rationales and methods used to enhance durability. The major modelling theories are also outlined. The section continues with some observations on durability of components as opposed to materials and issues surrounding durability of TRC and systems cf. materials. It concludes that TRC durability can be inferred from FRC durability, that FRC is well characterised with respect to durability cf. other composite materials, that the durability of components and systems needs further study and attempts should be made to unify the two fundamental modelling rationales for predicting degradation in FRC.
