Abstract: While the disciplines of engineering and architecture grow towards each other, it is recognised that in the building discipline consumer/producer relationships need special attention. Information in the field of sustainable building can be withdrawn from the activities of for example building team advisers and specialised building product manufacturers regarding practical consumption, production and marketing initiatives.
In general, the need is recognised that on a European level challenges for future building solutions should include the study of realistic consumption, innovation and protection patterns. In particular, the needs for a European initiative on waste prevention, and for the development of consumer and user rights, are considered to be of high importance.
