Abstract: J. , J-F. and D.When we try to assess the service Iife of building components with classical methods, we often meet ditficulties in the modelling of behaviour (setting up and maintenance characteristics, scales interactions between components, possible pathologies and their consequences). In this paper, we propose a substitute method to mode1 the behaviour in time of building products, based on the use of qualitative causal graphs and propagation rules. This method, which is a pari of a largest search on a methodological approach for the assessment of the durability and service life of building systems, is illustrated with a basic example.
