Abstract: Numerical simulation is becoming more commonly used also for applications in fastening technology. Especially the finite element method based numerical simulation has already been successfully applied in the product development process for several years. This was only possible by introducing a reliable material model suitable for every stress state into the finite element code.

The simulation of complex fastening structures generally requires a three dimensional modelling. Typical examples of these applications are the anchoring close to an edge of the concrete base material and/or the application of a shear force on the structure. The understanding of the load transfer mechanisms and the loading state occurring in the base material caused by the influence of a nearby edge is an essential input also for the evaluation of design rules. The insight into the material behaviour serves as the basis which is required for the development of excellent products.
