Abstract: The focus of the Symposium was on composite materials with matrices that display brittle behavior both under normal and special service conditions.
Brittle matrix composites are applied in various fields (civil infrastructure,mechanical equipment and machinery,vehicles,etc.
) and in the last decades their importance is increasing together with their variety.
Examples of materials that were covered in the accepted papers included: aggregate-binder composites (concretes and high performance concretes, fiber concretes), sintered materials ((ceramics), high strength composites with brittle matrices.
In addition,few papers dealt with structural applications of brittle composites.
The BMC Symposia provide an opportunity to bring together scientists and engineers interested and actively working in the title subject.
There are several worldrenowned scientists working in the field of composite materials who actively participated in all five BMC Symposia.
