Abstract: An extensive experimental programme has been carried out by an Italian factory for four years to investigate SFRC applications in prefabricated industry. Façade panels, beams, double-T, and roof elements were investigated. The present contribution describes the research activity aimed to produce prefabricated roof elements. Roof elements are a high-technological product of Italian industry. Almost the whole production is characterised by thin-webbed open cross-section profiles. The research has been oriented to investigate fibre distribution, mechanical characterisation of the material, fire resistance, durability and structural behaviour of full-size prototypes. The design of the structure takes into account the prestressed reinforcement for longitudinal bending and steel fibre reinforcement for transversal bending; only the final ends are transversally reinforced with rebars. As far as tensile behaviour is concerned, which is the constitutive feature most affected by fibres, the material parameters are identified according to RILEM (SIGMA-EPSILON) recommendation and procedures from the Italian Standardization Board (UNI). The experimental results show the reliability of the optimised HPFRC roof element structure here investigated and suggest further developments.
