Abstract: 
In this paper, numerical studies are used to simulate the effect of end constraint on concrete specimen in uniaxial compression. The fracture processes and strength characterization are numerically studied on meso-level. From the numerical simulation, the effect of rigid loading platens on the specimen in uniaxial compression is found to play an important role. The numerical results agree with the testing results.
