Abstract:
Ferrocement is a composite reinforced concrete material in which concrete is applied in a very thin layer to densify spaced small diameter reinforcement. In this paper, the bending response of hybrid ferrocement thin plates reinforced with wire meshes were experimentally investigated. The test includes 9 RC beams strengthened by steel wire mesh and two control specimens unstrengthened. The test program consists of two woven-mesh ferrocement strengthened reinforced concrete beams, and seven weld-mesh ferrocement strengthened reinforced concrete beams. Mid-span deflection, crack width and strains in the steel were measured during the course of the test. The strengthening results of U-shape and one-side ferrocement have been analyzed. The results show that ferrocement has the obvious effect on raising the load-bearing capacity, on raising crack-resisting capacity, and on improving the bending stiffness.
