Abstract:
This paper presents the tested results on the mechanical and self-sensing properties of CFRP bars and concrete beams reinforced with CFRP bars. The tested results show that the tensile stress-strain curves of CFRP bars are linear up to failure. The average ultimate tensile strength and elastic modulus of CFRP bars are 1621 MPa and 128.38 GPa respectively and they are about of 3.19 times strength and 64% modulus of steel bars respectively. The electrical resistance change of CFRP bars at failure is about 30-45% of the initial value. The electrical resistance change of CFRP bars embedded in the beams is about 3.96-6.74% and it is about 20% that of pure tensile specimens of CFRP bars at failure. The strain and stress of CFRP bars can be easily monitored by measure the electrical resistance change of CFRP bars.
