Abstract:
Concrete-filled rectangular steel tubular (CFRT) structure has become increasingly popular in structural applications. This is partly due to its excellent structural behavior and easiness for construction. Based on review of world-wide literature work on CFRT structures, research work in Tongji University is presented in this paper, which comprises three parts. In the first part, axial loading tests were carried out on 6 CFRT stubs and a 3D model for concrete was developed to perform F.E.M. nonlinear analysis on CFRT stubs subjected to axial compression. In the second part, cyclic tests were conducted on 12 specimens with large width-to-thickness ratio and full range analysis was carried out to investigate seismic behavior of CFRT columns. In the third part, connections between CFRT column and steel beam or RC beam were investigated and design formulae were also developed and calibrated with experimental results. After the above, brief introduction of Chinese state code - "Technical Specification for Structures with Concrete-Filled Rectangular Steel Tube Members" - were also presented here.
