Abstract: 
The problem of obtaining the required material parameters remains a major challenge for the safety government of concrete dam. Inverse procedures usually require optimization of an objective function. An ant colony optimization was proposed to identify parameters of the concrete dam efficiently and in a robust manner. Compared with gradient-type methods, the ant colony optimization is able to converge to global minima for estimating model parameters. The performances of the proposed optimization method and developed system were investigated with actual observed data, and their effectiveness was consequently confirmed.
