Abstract:
The objectives of the research are to investigate the seismic performance of a reinforced lightweight aggregate concrete frame. The frame was constructed with columns of 3 different cross sections. The coarse, lightweight aggregate used was haydite. Quasi-static reversed cyclic load was performed on a 1:2-scale model specimen. The model specimen exhibited a fairly stable response to the excitations. The experimental results indicate that the frame maintains good seismic behavior with desirable characteristics regarding failure mode, plastic deformation, and ductility. The frame model also revealed good energy dissipation capacity and is able to undergo large plastic rotary movement. This frame system may represent a viable alternative for low- to medium-rise structures in high level earthquake regions.
