Abstract: Glued laminated timber beams exhibit sometimes holes for ways for electric or hydraulic leads.
Of course, these holes have some effect on the stiffness and the strength of the beam.
The work here presented is a study of both effects and the comparison with recommendations of design codes, particularly EUROCODE 5.
The different stresses around the circular hole are computed and their variation with the ratio of the hole diameter over the height of the beam ratio is studied.
With this method, the different minimums and maximums are computed and localised.
