Abstract: A study examination on the change in fluidity over time of mortar for self-compacting concrete containing polycarboxylate-based superplasticizers was performed. The ratio of the relative flow area ratio of the mortar to the relative funnel speed ratio of the mortar was taken to be an indication of the particle dispersion effect of the superplasticizers, and quantitatively expressed the particle dispersion effect of the superplasticizers over time after the mortar was mixed. It was observed that the decrease in fluidity over time is not due to the superplasticizer but due to the flocculation of cement particles that appears to decrease the water content. In order to reduce the change in fluidity over time, it is necessary to increase the particle dispersion effects of the superplasticizers when the mortar is mixed and increase the adsorption amount of the superplasticizers per unit surface area of the cement particles.
