Abstract: Sometimes surfaces of SCC do not have the expected appearance. Sometimes the surfaces are covered with lots of blowholes of different sizes and sometimes other surface defects. SCC has been cast in the lab under different climatic conditions to simulate winter and summer. Presently obtained results seem to indicate that blowholes are more easily formed when the casting temperature of SCC is low and when the climate is cold. One driving force for forming blowholes can be the transport of pore water to the cold surface of the mould during the first hours after casting.
