Abstract: Polymer coating is a new organic surface protective material and most reports show that it can improve the chloride ion diffusion resistance of concrete. But the influence research of polymer coating on deterioration of concrete due to freezing and thawing is rare and the mechanism remains unresolved. Study on the frost resistance change of concrete coated with polymer from the microstructure point of view is of great importance in area of scientific evaluation the effect of polymer class protective material on concrete durability. In study of the work, the dynamic elastic modulus and weight loss of concretes coated with and without polymer material have been comparatively investigated. Then the capillary adsorption and porestructure of concrete coated with polymer material were analyzed to show the concrete microstructure change before freezing. Furthermore, the affecting mechanism of polymer coating on frost resistance of concrete has been systematic analyzed based on hydrostatic pressure theory.
