Abstract: Electrical measurement was used to investigate the early hydration characteristics of cement pastes with different dosages of two superplasticizers for the same water cement ratio. SEM and FTIR were used to observe the hydration products at different times in early age. It is found that the superplasticizers retarded the formation of C-S-H gel before the transition point on the resistivity curve and enhanced the formation of C-S-H after the transition point; the time for AFt formation at early age and the types of the hydration products in the hardened samples are not influenced by the superplasticizer addition. The time (tt) to reach the transition point on the resistivity curves is strongly related to the initial setting time and final setting time.
