Abstract: The objectives of the work described in this paper were to compare the strength and durability performance of Self Compacting Concrete (SCC) and Conventional Concrete (CC) of M30 grade. Self compacting concrete was developed using Nan-Su method of mix design and conventional concrete was developed using IS method of mix design. To justify the fresh properties of the thus developed SCC slump flow, T50cms, VFunnel, T5 minutes, J-Ring and L-Box tests were conducted and the values were verified as per EFNARC specifications. Compressive strength tests were conducted to testify the strength properties of SCC and CC. The durability properties like resistance to 5% sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, magnesium sulfate solution and sodium chloride solution were studied. The investigation indicated that the weight loss is more in CC compared to SCC when immersed in 5% sulfuric acid solution and 5% HCl acid solution. The compressive strength has decreased more in case of CC compared to SCC when immersed in acid solutions. The compressive strength of CC was decreased, when immersion in 5% MgSO4 solution and immersion in 5% NaCl solution and the strength loss was not observed in SCC in both the solutions. The average acid consumed by the conventional concrete cubes is more when compared to SCC cubes in 5% H2SO4 and 5% HCl solution. The weighted average of acid consumption in CC is more than SCC.
