Abstract: Sustainable development urges finding renewable resources without compromising the natural ones that have to be preserved for the future generations. Electric Arc-Furnace Dust(EAFD), a hazardous waste by-product of which about 15-20 kg is formed from steelmaking factories per ton of steel, represents an environmental challenge. The retardation in the setting time of cement due to the incorporation of EAFD has led to the suggestion of investigating EAFD as a set retarder, then finding its relation with the setting time of cement. The characterization of EAFD-cement hydration was conducted using automatic setting time determination, XRD, SEM-EDX, MIP and FT-IR analyses.
