Abstract:
Hydrophobic treatment of concrete was considered as an additional protective measure against penetration of aggressive substances, for instance deicing salts in bridge decks. Steel corrosion caused by chloride penetration is the major reason for the damage of concrete structures in marine environment. By silane treatment, the corrosion of chloride on concrete could be inhibited effectively, and the water absorption of concrete could also be decreased. Silane gel and silane solution was used as protection treatment on concrete surface. Effect of type and coating dosage of silane on the mechanical performance, capillary water absorption and chloride ion permeability of concrete was studied. It was shown that, the two silanes could penetrate to the depth of about 2~6 mm. Compared with untreated samples, the reduction of water absorption and chloride absorption of treated concrete was higher than 90%.The chloride diffusion coefficient and electric flux also decreased obviously. The protection effect of the two silanes on concrete both improved with the increase of coating dosage. The protection of silane gel on concrete was better than that of silane solution.
