Abstract: During the 1990s, the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) constructed HMA overlays over PCCP in an effort to extend the service life of the deteriorating pavements. By design requirements, the majority of the PCCP in Nevada are located on high volume roads where their long-term performance is highly critical to the state's economic well-being. Nevada's experiment included HMA overlays over crack/seat and rubblized PCCP. The projects were constructed in the northern part of the state where they are subjected to dry and freeze/thaw environment. This paper documents the long-term performance of HMA overlays over PCCP in Nevada. The paper presents the laboratory generated HMA mixtures properties along with the pavement management performance data for the various sections. The long-term performance data indicate that an HMA overlay over rubblized or crack/seat PCCP is an effective rehabilitation technique.
