Abstract: This brief summary provides short historical background on a continuing series of technical workshops devoted to high performance fiber reinforced cement composites (HPFRCC). It also discusses how the initial key feature of “high performance” of an FRC composite became to be known and widely recognized today as “strain-hardening” response. However, while such characteristic was implied throughout, the term “high performance” may also imply a broader range of properties such as when used in comparison with “standard or normal performance” at the time and geographic location where an application is considered, or when non-tensile response is considered such as for durability, impact resistance, stiffness, etc.
