Abstract: Crushed concrete has a rather big quality range. In the presented study we consider three
relevant quality factors.
- The compression strength varies between 10 and 80 MPa. Today no test is carried out.
- Most concrete is not contaminated.
- The crushing technique is said to effect the quality.
The aim of this study is to highlight some relevant factors influencing the quality of reused
crushed concrete.
Traffic load can be simulated with Cyclic load triaxial test. Concrete qualities over 30 Mpa
have shown excellent results. Strength beneath 10 Mpa has however shown mediocre results.
Heavy metals from traffic usually contaminate a small part of the surface of the concrete
structures, mostly less than 5 mm deep.
Cyclic load triaxial tests on the two main crushing techniques (jaw crusher and rotation
crusher) indicate that both methods are acceptable. The jaw crusher is somewhat better than
the rotation crusher.
