Abstract: This paper investigates the reasonable mix design parameters for SCC mixtures such as aggregate content, mineral admixture content and water/cement ratio, based on experimental study of workability and mechanical properties of self-compacting concrete (SCC) with strength grades from 30 to 60 MPa. The results indicate that the volume of course aggregate should be less than 33% and fine aggregate should be between 47% and 51%, the replacement of cement with fly ash can be 30% to 40% and the water-to-cementitious materials ratios should be less than 0.4. A modified calculation method is proposed, by which the content of each component of SCC mixtures can be determined easily.
