Abstract: Ultra high performance concrete (UHPC) arch is a promising new structure that is likely to addressing the challenge associated with the inner force, self-weight, durability and economy of concrete arch bridge. This paper focuses on estimating ultimate load of UHPC fixed arch under different design approaches. Experiments of two catenary fixed UHPC arch was briefly introduced, and in comparison to those of normal concrete (NC) arches. Based on the results of the arch tests, two design approaches of concrete arch included equivalent beam-column method and plastic ultimate analysis method were discussed for calculating ultimate load of UHPC arches. The analyses are indicated that the plastic analysis method is more suitable for UHPC arches subjected to concentrated load but cannot satisfy the request of structure serviceability and deformation within arch bridge design procedure; The equivalent beam-column method is the method for arch bridge in the design code, but it cannot work out reasonable results for UHPC arch subjected to concentrated load for reasons. The calculation method for UHPC compression member with large eccentricity should be modified and rebuilt for further analysis.
