Abstract: In this paper, results of an investigation on the use of an innovative modified polycarboxylate
admixture on fresh and hardened properties of concrete with coarse and fine recycled
aggregates are presented. Concrete mixtures were prepared by using diverse sources of re-
cycled concrete sand and recycled concrete gravel replacing natural sand and gravel.
The modified polycarboxylate admixture was used in addition to a standard polycarboxylate
superplasticizer.
The fresh (slump, air content and density) and hardened (compressive strength) properties of
recycled aggregates concrete (RAC) were analysed and compared with those of natural
aggregates concrete.
Results indicate the good performances of the modified polycarboxylate admixture in
reducing the water demand of recycled concrete on initial and long-term workability, by using
different percentage of recycled sand and gravel.
