Abstract: An approach for probabilistic assessment of concrete structures under severe loading and environmental conditions will be presented. It includes basically three main steps: Nonlinear computer simulation of structural resistance, advanced degradation modeling and application of efficient reliability techniques based on Monte Carlo type simulation. Complicated combination and interaction of nonlinear behavior, uncertainties propagation and degradation impact can be called complex conditions.
The paper is focused on probabilistic life-cycle assessment of concrete structures based on advanced stochastic nonlinear finite element simulation. Advanced nonlinear material models and efficient numerical techniques to determine structural reliability expressed by reliability index and failure probability within the framework of computationally intensive numerical analysis are employed; the life-cycle assessment is based on time-dependent degradation and reliability analysis – advanced computational models for concrete carbonation, corrosion of reinforcement and chloride ingress are utilized.
The aim of the performed research is to develop, integrate and apply advanced methodology for life-cycle assessment of concrete structures under complex severe conditions: material parameters testing, inverse analysis, damage identification, computational modeling, structural resistance investigation, material degradation modeling and reliability assessment. Integration of methods and software tools are briefly presented.
The fully probabilistic approach for reliability and durability assessment of concrete structures will be demonstrated on selected examples.
