Abstract: Determine the change of compressive strength of fired-clay bricks in total sulfates immersion, and observed the characteristics and composition of the surface morphology of the corrosion products soaked for 28 days by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy analyzer (EDS). The results showed that the sodium sulfate solution accumulated in the surface pores , salt crystallisation deserved particular attention, since they cause pressure inside pores and may induce the rupture of the pores walls, leading to disruptive effects, such as pulverisation, crumbling, blistering and flaking.
