Abstract: This study addresses an efficient method to develop a Self-Compacting Ultra-High
Performance Fibre Reinforced Concrete (SCUHPFRC), based on clarifying the multiply
impacts from mineral admixtures and superplasticizer. The concrete skeleton is designed
based on modified Andreasen and Andersen (A&A) model, aiming at achieving a densely
compacted matrix. Then, the dosage of superplasticizer and multiply impacts of mineral
admixtures (e.g.: fly ash and ground granulated blast furnace slag) and superplasticizer on the
rheology, flowability, compressive strength and hydration kinetics of the designed concrete
matrix are evaluated, aiming at optimizing the use of superplasticizer The obtained
experimental results show that there is an optimized superplasticizer dosage, excess
superplasticizer on one hand can cause the materials waste, on the other hand could
significantly restrict the cement hydration kinetics and reduce the compressive strength for the
designed UHFRPC. Moreover, the optimized superplasticizer dosage of UHFRPC with
various minerals are different, blending of fly ash and superplasticizer can further improve the
superplasticizer efficiency. Finally, based on the obtained experimental results in this study, a
SCUHPFRC with 2.3% superplasticizer (by the mass of cementitious materials) and about 30%
fly ash (by the mass of cementitious materials) are produced and evaluated.
