Abstract: This paper provides results from experimental work on the durability of external thermal insulation composite system (ETICS). The research of laboratory ageing of external thermal insulation composite system (ETICS) is carried out in order to study the change of hygroscopic properties of thesystem. The widely used different types of thin-layer facade renders were tested according ETAG 004. The change of hygroscopic parameters due to accelerated weathering and carbonation process were investigated. The emphasis has been put on examination of changes in water absorption of ETICS over a time. The real durability of ETICS cannot be predicted following the results of current artificial weathering tests, because they do not assess the carbonization process in render over a time. This study is built on the objectives of contributing at the European politic on “Towards the next generation of standarts for service life of cement-based materials and structures” through the COST Action “European Cooperation in Science and Technology” - TU1404.
