Abstract: The historic Danube spring monument in Donaueschingen shows severe signs of deterioration due to moisture and salts. To preserve the remaining structure made of molasse sandstone, it was necessary to carefully dry its fragile relief artwork. A monitoring of the de-humidification progress was realized with an innovative impedance measurement system developed at the University of Stuttgart. We present the determining factors in this project and explain the monitoring technique along with the carried out work.
