Abstract: The distribution uniformity of lightweight aggregate (LWA) in concrete directly affects on the performance of LWA concrete. LWA was wrapped by cementitious materials in this paper. The physical properties of LWA and its effects on workability, apparent density and strength of concrete were studied before and after treatment. The homogeneity of concrete was analyzed by segregation resistance experiment. The results showed that the apparent density of wrapped LWA (WLWA) is increased, and the rate of water absorption is decreased significantly. When WLAW was added, the segregation resistance and strength of concrete is improved. The distribution uniformity of LWA in hardened concrete is significantly increased. The interface of LAW and cement paste is not affected. Wrapping treatment is an effective method to improve the homogeneity of LWA in concrete.
