Abstract: The preparation of self-compacting concrete (SCC) is a key technology for the precast of steel-shell concrete submerged tunnel which has a Steel-Concrete-Steel sandwich structure. In the study, SCC was prepared with different cementitious materials. Tests of slump flow, V-funnel, U-channel and L-channel were carried out to control the workability of fresh concrete. The compressive strength of the hardened concrete was tested too. A test method for the glide resistance between hardened concrete and steel shell was designed and the maximum push force was tested for different concretes. The selected SCC were used and evaluated in a model experiment. The results revealed that when high volume fly ash and low volume slag were used to replace cement, the flowability, filling ability and segregation resistance of the fresh concrete were satisfied. The compressive strength of the SCC reached C50 at the age of 28d, while good synergistic effect between steel shell and concrete was obtained too. When the workability of the selected SCC is well controlled, the construction performances including filling effect, homogeneity and strength are satisfied.
