Abstract: Self-induced non-elastic deformations in hardening concrete, caused by restrained volume changes due to thermal and moisture deformations, often leads to cracking. To quantify by calculations the resulting stresses and strains due to restrained volumetric changes prior to casting is therefore important. The following property areas of the concrete needs to be known prior to such calculations; strength development, heat of hydration, autogenous shrinkage, thermal dilation, elastic modulus, basic creep and stress at full restraint.
This work demonstrates how theses property areas may be tested and how to evaluate the numerical data, thus yielding a parameter set suitable at stress and strain development calculations.
