Abstract:
The concept of "effective" water-cement ratio known as k-value concept for concretes with supplementary cementing materials (SCMs) incorporated in EN 206 is discussed together with an analytical model for carbonation progress. Concerning uncertainties of concrete mixture, carbon dioxide concentration and other input data, the statistical description of carbonation progress is gained. This allows for the calculation of relevant reliability index for different service lifes, considering the time of initiation of rebar corrosion as a limiting condition. An effective simulation technique is utilized in order to enhance the tools for durability design.
