Abstract:
The usual requirements of durability for the concrete today are of prescriptive character. Some are specific of each class of exposure, for instance, others one are common to any norm, the maximum water-cement ratio and the suitable minimum contain of cement for each class of exposure, and sometimes also a minimum resistant class of the concrete is specified. Both which they are common in any norm they have relation with the use of additions in the concrete. In the first part of this communication those two requirements of durability are related to the efficiency factor of the additions related to the compressive strength, and in a second part the efficiency of fly ashes is studied in relation to carbonation and chloride penetration.
