Abstract: This paper presents an experimental investigation on the thermal conductivity of cement-based foams. Besides Portland cement, binders with fly ash, silica fume and metakaolin were cast at densities between 400 to 800 kg/m3. The thermal evaluation was conducted through heat from a Transient Plane Source (TPS), which conformed to ISO standards. The applicability of Maxwell, Russell and Frey model in assessing the influence of density and different type mineral admixture has been investigated. The comparison with the experimental values shows that these models over predict the thermal conductivity for higher densities. Moreover, it was found that for the lower densities, the thermal conductivity is largely dependent upon the pore size and structure, whereas for higher densities it is influenced by the properties of the hydrated cement paste. All three pozzolanic admixtures reduce the thermal conductivity with respect to Portland cement.
