Abstract: This paper describes fundamental mechanical properties such as compressive and bending strength, elastic modulus, and freezing and thawing durability of extremely dry concrete made with eco-cement. The air void system and pore structure in the concrete are investigated to consider the freezing and thawing behavior of the extremely dry concrete for pavement use. It is revealed that the extremely dry concrete with eco-cement has sufficient mechanical properties for pavement use, i.e., a very dense pore structure compared with that of the concrete made with ordinary portland cement. However, relatively high scaling when freezing and thawing in a 3% sodium chloride solution is observed for the eco-cement-based extremely dry concrete. The smaller volume of small diameter air voids influences the higher scaling of the eco-cement-based extremely dry concrete. The scaling increment in a 3% sodium chloride solution for the concrete is not serious for concrete in the natural environment. The slightly lower moisture content of the concrete controls the scaling of the eco-cement-based extremely dry concrete even in a 3% sodium chloride solution.
