Abstract: It had been experimentally observed that the high purity of 2CaO・SiO2 (C2S) clinker is able
to be manufactured through rotary kiln by utilizing calcium hydroxide by-product and quartz
rock, under relatively generic portland cement manufacturing condition. C2S manufacturing by
utilizing calcium hydroxide by-product and the quartz rock emits just around 124.5 kg-CO2/ton,
which is 83.9 % reduction compared with that of conventional portland cement manufacturing
process. In addition to this emission reduction during manufacturing, 1 ton of C2S theoretically
absorbs 450 kg of CO2 during its carbonation reaction, meaning this technology can contribute
potentially 116 thousand tons of CO2. reduction by utilizing 210 thousand tons of calcium
hydroxide by-product which has been emitted through calcium carbide industry annually in
Japan.
