Abstract: Direct tension tests were conducted on ECC specimens to investigate their tensile performance. The specimens included those made only of ECC and those made of ECC reinforced with welded bar mesh or expanded metal. Owing to ECC’s bearing capability of tensile force after cracking, the tensile load-bearing capacity of specimens with sprayed ECC was the superposition of those of steel reinforcement and ECC, even with a low reinforcement content. When combining ECC spray material A having a low tensile deformability with steel reinforcement, the tensile deformability of the member increased, as steel reinforcement arrests and disperses cracks.
