Abstract: Mixing and placement of fresh concrete can have a significant effect on hardened concrete with regard to mechanical performance, durability as well as other properties. This paper presents a numerical approach based on the Distinct Element Method, which aims for continuous modelling of not only fresh concrete during the working and hardening process but subsequently of the hardened concrete behaviour as well.

Keywords: Rheology, fracture mechanics, numerical analysis, DEM.
