Abstract: The paper deals with the ultrasonic transmission method to determine setting and hardening of cementitious materials. The testing device, FreshCon, developed at Stuttgart University, together with a new signal evaluation procedure, based on the Akaike Information Criteria (AIC) is presented. The method worked well during the investigation of mortars with two different cements, two types of shotcrete accelerators and four dosages. The aim of the study was to differentiate between the mortar composition with respect to setting time which was successful.

Keywords: setting, hardening, concrete, ultrasound, accelerator, shotcrete, young concrete
