Abstract: The evolution of concrete characteristics with the mixing time is related by empirical relations to the mixing power time evolution when a threshold mixing time is exceeded. This threshold mixing time corresponds to the transition of the material into the mixer from a granular cohesive material to a granular paste. The corresponding point in the mixing power to mixing time chart - the fluidity point - is associated to a sharp decrease in the power rate.
Several on-line detection methods of the fluidity point are presented at the time of an experimental campaign. It consists on sixty batches of different composition produced in a laboratory scale 1 concrete mixing plant. The analyses focuses on the twelve SCC produced.
The other batches, mainly of HPC, confirm the observed evolutions.
For a given industrial situation (mixer, loading sequences) the fluidity points for different batches are situated on a master curve. Once the fluidity point determined, the following evolution of the mixing power with time can be predicted for a given batch. This prediction may improve the choice of the mixing end-point, batch per batch.
